Right about now, a 90 degree day seems like a respite.

I am in love with the idea of Fall. The exuberance of Summer wanes and the somber reckonings of Fall come to the fore.

While I no longer experience Fall as a Midwesterner, I anticipate - and long for - the beginning of the End of the Year.

As a child, this illustration by John T. McCutcheon (appearing in the venerable Chicago Tribune) holds a generous basketful of memories for me....just by looking at it I am transported back to Jefferson Park, on Higgins Avenue, where men who looked like the guys in Mad Men lit the cabochons of raked leaves in front of their houses. Their cigarettes sometimes tossed into the pile as it burned down. It was a Fall Ritual, long banished....the neatly raked piles in the street and the men tending them. The smell was intoxicating....and I wonder what my father envisioned in the billowing clouds.

No matter my age, I stand insignificantly before the mystery of Mother Nature herself winding down, coalescing her forces, preparing for the inevitable stasis of Winter....only to be followed by an explosive Spring.

It is the promise of renewal that keeps me going. I hope you enjoy this old illustration. Before the PC police ban it - even the title seems quaintly arcane. Just as that little fella's imagination turns the smoke into a war dance, my imagination envisions a dramatic November Election war dance. We need brave Braves now from the GOP. Braves of either gender. What do you see in your campfire?

Good Morning America! The assaults are coming left and right to our Great State. Funny how camaraderie works isn't it? God help you if you are not in perfect lock-step with intolerant liberals. Mensawarrior suggests that anyone who does not understand the importance of national sovereignty either is

2. In need of living in Pima county for a month,

3. a subversive,

4. a treasonous SOB intent on tearing down the US.

That's how I see it, anyway. We are not talking about immigrants who want to become good Americans. We are talking about Illegal Malevolent Invaders who intend to tear this nation down and - with the inspiring words of their El Presidente - to put into practice that "where there are Mexicans there is Mexico."

Can you imagine any other world leader saying, "where there are Canadians, there is Canada." Or "where there are Poles, there is Poland." Wouldn't Keith Olbermann have a giant on-air stroke with that one? I can hear him ranting, You Sir are an Imperialist!

What would happen if we said, "where there are Americans, there is America." Damn it!!!!!! Damn it!!! Are you mad yet?

And the grinning skull Pelosi clapping for El Presidente when that SOB basically calls for Mexican Terrorist Cell Activation?

I used to be more tolerant, but if you are tolerant of sedition what does that make you? If you are tolerant of diversity that includes invasion of your country and mockery of your laws, and violent incivility, again, WHAT DOES THAT MAKE YOU?

The COWARD on the COUCH is what it makes you. Get your dead ass off the couch and figure out what is happening here.

Arizona is the CANARY in the MINE SHAFT. She is the early warning signal. And all of the signals are right there - clear - front and center.

This is beyond Party Affiliation. This is what might hold us together as Americans.

When The President of the United States actually really has the idiocy to say "We are more about BONDS than BORDERS" and stands there while Calderone's bullshit is smeared in his face, well what do you expect Americans who believe in borders and culture and common language to do.

In this 2007 investigation of ACORN, the FBI confiscated documents that implicate ACORN in activities related to voter fraud specifically related to Carol M. Braun's career. Presidente Obama was involved here too.

The corruption of Chicago Machine-Style politics has blossomed in zipcode 20500. This is going to get dirty, folks. 2012 will be more about the prevention of vote fraud than voter turnout.
As Bette Davis said in "All About Eve" - fasten your seatbelts it's going to be a bumpy night. A bumpy election indeed.

This does not happen often to the Mensawarrior. Got involved in something........maybe shouldn't have. Well, onward. Regrets are for losers.

So....Big things are happening in Arizona. Militant racist Mexicans are vocal, and shrill and 3 seconds away from violence. Things are being said by these people that would be tolerated by no other ethnicity.

States who should be neighbors are turning against Arizona - showing a horrific lack of camaraderie. In a small and minuscule way, the same thing is happening in the hamlet of San Tan Valley. Where she should be surrounded by beneficent neighbors, she struggles against a sea of back-alley, protectionist forces as STV tries to incorporate. What a wake up call this has been for the Mensawarrior. Used to large battles - used to large issues, this reductio ad absurdum is petty. But with millions of dollars at stake, with future growth being decided, it's a worthy issue. Just as the state of California, and to a degree New York have shown themselves to be less than brotherly, there are folks who sit on City Councils who are more worried about the radius of their town boundaries, rather than the boundaries of Pinal County.

Weary.

In the midst of a President who is putting American interests last, a financial system that is held together by twine and Elmer's, a planet spewing oil, an ecosystem groaning under garbage and toxicity, money that isn't worth the paper it's printed on, moral decline and perversion touted as virtue....I mean really, WTF? What is really important? Spending your paycheck and ordering more Pay Per View?

As my personal world cracks and the fissures of discontent bubble to the surface, it's just hard to soldier on. And how is your day?

Mexico's Immigration Law: Let's Try It Here at Home

"Mexico has a radical idea for a rational immigration policy that most Americans would love. However, Mexican officials haven’t been sharing that idea with us as they press for our Congress to adopt the McCain-Kennedy immigration reform bill.

That's too bad, because Mexico, which annually deports more illegal aliens than the United States does, has much to teach us about how it handles the immigration issue. Under Mexican law, it is a felony to be an illegal alien in Mexico.

At a time when the Supreme Court and many politicians seek to bring American law in line with foreign legal norms, it’s noteworthy that nobody has argued that the U.S. look at how Mexico deals with immigration and what it might teach us about how best to solve our illegal immigration problem. Mexico has a single, streamlined law that ensures that foreign visitors and immigrants are:

in the country legally;

have the means to sustain themselves economically;

not destined to be burdens on society;

of economic and social benefit to society;

of good character and have no criminal records; and

contributors to the general well-being of the nation.

The law also ensures that:

immigration authorities have a record of each foreign visitor;

foreign visitors do not violate their visa status;

foreign visitors are banned from interfering in the country’s internal politics;

foreign visitors who enter under false pretenses are imprisoned or deported;

foreign visitors violating the terms of their entry are imprisoned or deported;

those who aid in illegal immigration will be sent to prison.

Who could disagree with such a law? It makes perfect sense. The Mexican constitution strictly defines the rights of citizens -- and the denial of many fundamental rights to non-citizens, illegal and illegal. Under the constitution, the Ley General de Población, or

General Law on Population, spells out specifically the country's immigration policy.

It is an interesting law -- and one that should cause us all to ask, Why is our great southern neighbor pushing us to water down our own immigration laws and policies, when its own immigration restrictions are the toughest on the continent? If a felony is a crime punishable by more than one year in prison, then Mexican law makes it a felony to be an illegal alien in Mexico.

If the United States adopted such statutes, Mexico no doubt would denounce it as a manifestation of American racism and bigotry.

We looked at the immigration provisions of the Mexican constitution. [1] Now let's look at Mexico's main immigration law.

Mexico welcomes only foreigners who will be useful to Mexican society:

Foreigners are admitted into Mexico "according to their possibilities of contributing to national progress." (Article 32)

Immigration officials must "ensure" that "immigrants will be useful elements for the country and that they have the necessary funds for their sustenance" and for their dependents. (Article 34)

Foreigners may be barred from the country if their presence upsets "the equilibrium of the national demographics," when foreigners are deemed detrimental to "economic or national interests," when they do not behave like good citizens in their own country, when they have broken Mexican laws, and when "they are not found to be physically or mentally healthy." (Article 37)

The Secretary of Governance may "suspend or prohibit the admission of foreigners when he determines it to be in the national interest." (Article 38)

Mexican authorities must keep track of every single person in the country:

Federal, local and municipal police must cooperate with federal immigration authorities upon request, i.e., to assist in the arrests of illegal immigrants. (Article 73)

A National Population Registry keeps track of "every single individual who comprises the population of the country," and verifies each individual's identity. (Articles 85 and 86)

A national Catalog of Foreigners tracks foreign tourists and immigrants (Article 87), and assigns each individual with a unique tracking number (Article 91).

Foreigners with fake papers, or who enter the country under false pretenses, may be imprisoned:

Foreigners with fake immigration papers may be fined or imprisoned. (Article 116)

Foreigners who sign government documents "with a signature that is false or different from that which he normally uses" are subject to fine and imprisonment. (Article 116)

Foreigners who fail to obey the rules will be fined, deported, and/or imprisoned as felons:

Foreigners who fail to obey a deportation order are to be punished. (Article 117)

Foreigners who are deported from Mexico and attempt to re-enter the country without authorization can be imprisoned for up to 10 years. (Article 118)

Foreigners who violate the terms of their visa may be sentenced to up to six years in prison (Articles 119, 120 and 121). Foreigners who misrepresent the terms of their visa while in Mexico -- such as working with out a permit -- can also be imprisoned.

Under Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony. The General Law on Population says,

"A penalty of up to two years in prison and a fine of three hundred to five thousand pesos will be imposed on the foreigner who enters the country illegally." (Article 123)

Foreigners with legal immigration problems may be deported from Mexico instead of being imprisoned. (Article 125)

Foreigners who "attempt against national sovereignty or security" will be deported. (Article 126)

Mexicans who help illegal aliens enter the country are themselves considered criminals under the law:

A Mexican who marries a foreigner with the sole objective of helping the foreigner live in the country is subject to up to five years in prison. (Article 127)

Shipping and airline companies that bring undocumented foreigners into Mexico will be fined. (Article 132)

All of the above runs contrary to what Mexican leaders are demanding of the United States. The stark contrast between Mexico's immigration practices versus its American

immigration preachings is telling. It gives a clear picture of the Mexican government's agenda: to have a one-way immigration relationship with the United States.

Let's call Mexico's bluff on its unwarranted interference in U.S. immigration policy. Let's propose, just to make a point, that the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) member nations standardize their immigration laws by using Mexico's own law as a model."

When you visit our neighbors to the South, are you confident of your "rights" while you are spending your American dollars there - are you treated with "respect and dignity" - or are you shit-scared that if you step out of line you will rot in some Mexican jail?

Ding, dong mo-fo's, the bell is tolling for thee. Yes, you. You know who you are....you play by the rules, you work, you give about 3 months of your legally earned paycheck to Daddy Government in the form of Federal Taxation. You aren't a felon, you try to keep up with your bills, you don't mug people....you get my drift, right?

So when did it become a liability to play by those decent rules? Answer: In the Dark Age of the reign of Barack Almighty. You are a "citizen" but you are no better than a non-citizen, except that you pay for that dubious privilege.

Do you know the violent goals of MECHA? Do you understand the violent nature of their logo? Are you outraged at the gunning down of the American citizen, the rancher in southern Arizona who died trying to protect his private property from the southern invasion? Are you outraged that our bloated social services system does not fiscally support our own citizenry, much less the overwhelming burden of millions of illegal aliens? The Mensawarrior is dreading 2010 and 2012 because we will see vote fraud on a scale that we have never seen in America. I am convinced that the average American has been told that America is no good so many times that pride in our nation is at an all time low. School books denigrate our history, and the average teenager knows so little about freedom and the elegant form of government we enjoy, that cultural take-over is going to be like shooting ducks in a barrel.

Think of the insanity at work when the President of Mexico has the audacity to say that a law that aims to curb ILLEGAL invasion is somehow "not fair."

Dear Ciudadano Presidente Constitucional de los Estados Unidos Mexicanos Calderon, maybe if you ran your country better, you would not have millions fleeing. But hey now, when you get rid of millions that's less for you to pay for and accommodate...and more for us. Presidente Calderon, do you think Americans are that stupid? Are you not afraid that the vast majority of us hate what you have allowed to happen? We know that you have no incentive whatsoever to get your country in order! If the lunatics have their way, the very concept of Citizenship in the United States will disintegrate as surely as traditional values have been disintegrating in our country.

Our Country. That’s right. Our Nation. Not the middle of the North American Union. A borderless country that tolerates passive invasion cannot remain a country for long. A nation with no respect for her own laws becomes a joke. But these are desperate times and there is nothing funny about the hatred hurled at our private citizenry by vocal and violent illegals.

What does the concept of Country even mean without sovereignty? How can anyone who is here legally not resent this hatred of our laws by illegal immigrants who have the audacity to smear “beanstikas” on a government building in Arizona?

Hasn’t the politically correct dance about the illegal immigrants who are draining Arizona’s social resources, taking jobs from citizens, skirting taxes, committing violent crime, taking up prison space and generally sapping the system gone on long enough?

How many US Citizens will die protecting their property from the increasingly shrill, arrogant, contemptuous group of violent invaders from Mexico before the Federal Government will become involved?

The answer is: an unlimited number. At this point, it should be painfully apparent that States are on their own. They cannot look to the Commander in Chief to protect their rights as tax-paying, law-abiding citizens. With crashing economies, with escalating crime, with each day bringing new horror to Arizonan citizens, what did you expect?

We are one of the last bastions of sanity. We’re trying to hold tight in the face of a frightening conglomeration of freedom-quashing socialists in Washington. Believe it – they are taking this position because these illegal invaders are merely Undocumented Democratic Voters. Sickening. These sons-of-bitches are counting votes, while the rest of us look on with jaw-dropping nausea.

Maybe enough is finally enough. In psychology there is a phenomena called The Bystander Effect. It is what happened when Kitty Genovese was brutally murdered in New York while people watched, each witness thinking that “someone else” was going to call for help.

Will we keep thinking that someone else will fix this? Have we abdicated our reason here? Have we abdicated our responsibility as our values and beliefs are murdered before our eyes? Do we sneak furtive looks at each other, looking for validation before stepping up – as individuals – and stopping the erosion of all that makes this country different from the socialist chaos that is enveloping Europe?

Let me be perfectly clear here – the President of the United States (and his mobster minions) support the rise of anarchy in the United States by not protecting our Sovereign Borders. He is supporting the rape of our land, and puts the rights of illegal invaders above the people who support the country and the laws of this country by paying taxes and obeying the laws.

With our unemployment soaring, our jobs need to be protected and reserved for people who Dennis Miller likes to say “signed the Guest Book.” John McCain, take notes.

Decent people feel unfairly treated. And that is because they are being unfairly treated. Obama’s change is seen for what it is now. The mask has been ripped off the Phantom of the Opera and the full grotesque regime has been exposed. It will only stop when our country is ripped apart and remade into the Obama Nation. There is a disturbing agenda afoot here – and it is Orwellian in the extreme. And that's something that a very large percentage of Americans find evil, and soul-sucking.

WAKE UP NOW. Don’t worry about soccer schedules, and tanning, and watching “Idol” – your rights as citizens are being flushed down the Rio Grande.

Patriotism, unity, shared values are the only things we can cling to now, and they will hold us together. Those terms are the very things that the America-destroying thugs snicker at – the things that they twist and turn to call us the ugly names of racist, or morons, or the inevitable Nazi references.

Remember that these tactics are meant to silence you – and Propaganda 101 goes like this: laugh at your enemy, call them stupid Luddites, and when that doesn’t silence them, up the ante and call them racists, crazy, dangerous. And when that doesn’t work, they will try to physically silence you.

And that’s where, thank God, a little thing like our Constitution and the Bill of Rights may hold them off for awhile.

So, when I see illegals smear our building with refried bean swastikas, I am enraged. They are smearing their contempt for our laws as well (and our President and his Czars agree with them not us).

Those Beanstikas are being smeared in your face too. Just keep paying and shut the F up. So, I ask you, a hardworking taxpayer and patriot….are you a sucker?

April 15, a day that lives in infamy. I know that sounds a little dramatic....and appropriate taxation makes sense if the money is being spent wisely. You know, if our hard-earned money was spent on things that make sense, things like national security, and prudent expenditures.
That is not the case. The people in Washington have let us all down. Unfortunately, even Republicans lost their way when they had their shining moment a few years back. Democrats have become increasingly frightening, with their shrill brand of Socialism. I hardly recognize my country anymore.
Tomorrow I plan on going to a Tea Party. I plan on standing with like-minded people who are sick and tired of being railroaded, of being lied to, of being STOLEN FROM! And every lunatic leftist who thinks that people who oppose the Obama Regime are whatever "ism" they'd like to hang on us....frankly I don't give a damn. The time to make nice is over. The time to politely disagree is over. And if you don't "get that" you will passively sit on the sidelines at the kids table, while the grown-ups go out there and fight for freedom's very existence.
Tomorrow is a shameful day, where only a few people pay their fair share, a few people pay an obscenely inappropriate amount, and the vast majority of do-nothings sit back and laugh at our angst.

Janet Napolitano and Underwear Bomber Both Caught With Their Pants Down!

Just when you thought that our world could not withstand any increase in the Wierd Quotient....here comes Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab's Christmas Gift to Northwest Airlines. A botched butt bomb. Reports are now circulating that he was escorted on board by a "sharp-dressed man" and that he appeared in a "stupor." What? What now?

Then his pants popped, caught fire, passengers intervened....bottom-line no lives lost on Christmas Day from this operative.

But then this very curious statement comes from Jan Incompetano:

NAPOLITANO: "What we are focused on is making sure that the air environment remains safe, that people are confident when they travel. And one thing I'd like to point out is that the system worked. Everybody played an important role here."

I don't get it. Either she was flummoxed and just tried to bs her way out of a gooey situation...or she believes the system does work as long as bombers are incompetent and passengers are on guard. Or....or.....you are with the Alex Jones crowd who feels that the Underwear Bomb Scare is a CIA coverup staged in order to put full-body scan detectors into airports.

As the former governor of our arid yet alluring state, Ms. Napolitano has been used to throwing the media off the scent with delicious officious lingo. There you go, AZ TV, there's your feel-good-sound-bite now go away. Except on the national stage, it doesn't play out that way.

I do not plan on taking airplane rides soon, and now, along with aliens tearing out the engines, I can add exploding Fruit-of-the-Loom (Loon???) to my list of reasons to stay away from Sky Harbor. Kidding. Sort of.

All the Mensawarrior knows for sure is that there is an increasingly large number of people who have lost faith in Washington, in the media, in news reporting in general. We will not return to the days where Cronkite's monologue was thought to be etched on clay tablets. Yet....this climate of "trust no one" is also wrong-headed. It's the thorny road to anarchy.

The American People need some honest talk, some respected values and some return to free enterprise and unfettered democracy.

And Janet - the system failed miserably. Please leave this big job to bigger people.

Gone since November. Gone but hopefully not forgotten. The Mensawarrior was caught up in the frenetic pace of the October/November/December axis. Plus a nasty encounter with H1N1. Well, I'm back. With a killer immune system. So it is the cusp of 2010. What should be the goal of a conservative in 2010? Legislative power. Regain seats. Stop the madness.

The midnight vote on Obamacare sickened conservatives. The descent into Socialism has begun Chicago-style. Remember when Chicago-Style brought pizza to mind? Wouldn't mind having a Rosati's Monster right about now.

But back to politics. Obamacare will effectively remove the private sector from the business of insurance. I guess that's what lack of self-regulation does in this world of Big Brother. Show some laxity and the Feds swoop in to take over. Are you well-read enough to be scared yet?

Time to sit down with a fresh sheet of paper and line up your resolutions for the new year. I have a new one this year (in addition to the ubiquitous exercise more and eat healthy) and that is to never hide my conservative views in the interest of not drawing fire. I will never be silent in a room full of bully-Democrats again. That's one resolution I intend on keeping!

She tells it how I feel it - How about YOU?

"I am a home grown American citizen, 53, registered Democrat all my life. Before the last presidential election I registered as a Republican because I no longer felt the Democratic Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. Now I no longer feel the Republican Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. The fact is I no longer feel any political party or representative in Washington represents my views or works to pursue the issues important to me. Instead, we are burdened with Congressional Dukes and Duchesses who think they know better than the citizens they are supposed to represent.

There must be someone. Please tell me who you are. Please stand up and tell me that you are there and that you're willing to fight for our Constitution as it was written. Please stand up now.

You might ask yourself what my views and issues are that I would feel so horribly disenfranchised by both major political parties. What kind of nut-job am I? Well, these briefly are the views and issues for which I seek representation:

One, illegal immigration. I want you to stop coddling illegal immigrants and secure our borders. Close the underground tunnels.. Stop the violence and the trafficking in drugs and people. No amnesty, not again. Been there, done that, no resolution.

I'm not a racist. This is not to be confused with legal immigration.

Two, the STIMULUS bill. I want it repealed and I want no further funding supplied to it. We told you No, but you did it anyway. I want the remaining unfunded 95% repealed. Freeze, repeal.

Three: Czars. I want the circumvention of our constitutional checks and balances stopped immediately. Fire the czars. No more czars. Government officials answer to the process, not to the president. Stop trampling on our Constitution, and honor it.

Four, cap and trade. The debate on global warming is not over. There are many conflicting opinions and it is too soon for this radical legislation. Quit throwing our nation into politically-correct quicksand.

Five, universal healthcare. I will not be rushed into another expensive decision that will burden me, my children, and grandchildren. Don't you dare try to pass this in the middle of the night without even reading it. Slow down! Fix only what is broken -- we have the best health care system in the world -- and test any new program in one or two states first.

Six, growing government control. I want states rights and sovereignty fully restored. I want less government in my life, not more. More is not better! Shrink it down. Mind your own business. You have enough to take care of with your real [Constitutional] obligations. Why don't you start there.

Seven, ACORN. I do not want ACORN and its affiliates in charge of our 2010 census. I want them investigated. I also do not want mandatory escrow fees contributed to them every time on every real estate deal that closes -- how did they pull that one off? Stop the funding to ACORN and its affiliates pending impartial audits and investigations. I do not trust them with taking the census with our taxpayer money. I don't trust them with any of our taxpayer money. Face up to the allegations against them and get it resolved before taxpayers get any more involved with them. Eight, redistribution of wealth. No, no, no. I work for my money. It is mine. I have always worked for people with more money than I have because they gave me jobs -- and that is the only redistribution of wealth that I will support.. I never got a job from a poor person! Why do you want me to hate my employers? And what do you have against shareholders making a profit?

Nine, charitable contributions. Although I never got a job from a poor person, I have helped many in need. Charity belongs in our local communities, where we know our needs best and can use our local talent and our local resources. Butt out, please. We want to do it ourselves.

Ten, corporate bailouts. Knock it off. Every company must sink or swim like the rest of us. If there are hard times ahead, we'll be better off just getting into it and letting the strong survive. Quick and painful. (Have you ever ripped off a Band-Aid?) We will pull together. Great things happen in America under great hardship. Give us the chance to innovate. We cannot disappoint you more than you have disappointed us.

Eleven, transparency and accountability. How about it? No, really, how about it? Let's have it. Let's say we give the buzzwords a rest and have some straight honest talk.. Please stop trying to manipulate and appease me with clever wording.. I am not the idiot you obviously take me for. Stop sneaking around and meeting in back rooms making deals with your friends. It will only be a prelude to your criminal investigation. Stop hiding things from me.

Take a breath. Listen to the people. Slow down and get some input from nonpoliticians and experts on the subject. Stop making everything an emergency. Stop speed-reading our bills into law. I entrusted you with upholding the Constitution. I believed in the checks and balances to keep from getting far off course. What happened? You are very far off course. Do you really think I find humor in the hiring of a speed reader to unintelligently ramble all through a bill that you signed into law without knowing what it contained? I do not.

It is a mockery of the responsibility I have entrusted to you. It is a slap in the face. I am not laughing at your arrogance. Why is it that I feel as if you would not trust me to make a single decision about my own life and how I would live it but you should expect that I should trust you with the debt that you have laid on all of us and our children. We did not want the TARP bill. We said no. We would repeal it if we could. I am sure that we still cannot. There is needless urgency and recklessness in all of your recent spending of our tax dollars.

From my perspective, it seems that all of you have gone insane. I also know that I am far from alone in these feelings. Do you honestly feel that your current pursuits have merit to patriotic Americans? We want it to stop. We want to put the brakes on everything that is being rushed by us and forced upon us. We want our voice back. You have forced us to put our lives on hold to straighten out the mess that you are making. We will have to give up our vacations, our time spent with our children, any relaxation time we may have had and money we cannot afford to spend on bringing our concerns to Washington . Our president often knows all the right buzzwords like unsustainable. Well, no kidding. How many tens of thousands of dollars did the focus group cost to come up with that word? We don't want your overpriced words. Stop treating us like we're morons.

We want all of you to stop focusing on your reelection and do the job we want done, not the job you want done or the job your party wants done. You work for us and at this rate I guarantee you not for long because we are coming. We will be heard and we will be represented.. You think we're so busy with our lives that we will never come for you? We are the formerly silent majority, all of us who quietly work, pay taxes, obey the law, vote, save money, keep our noses to the grindstone... and we are now looking at you.

You have awakened us, the patriotic freedom spirit so strong and so powerful that it had been sleeping too long. You have pushed us too far. Our numbers are great. They may surprise you. For every one of us who will be there, there will be hundreds more that could not come. Unlike you, we have their trust. We will represent them honestly, rest assured. September 11. A day of Remembering, of Mourning and Renewed Resolve. I remember exactly where I was when the second plane hit the towers. I'm betting the moment is clear to you too. I remember thinking - "We are under attack...we are under siege." And as the horrific complexity of that day comes to mind, I think of the thousands of my fellow-citizens who died. Some instantly, some gasping for breath, some crushed, some jumping in desperation out of the buildings. And the hundreds of rescuers who answered the call, some perishing, some wounded.

Ordinary citizens placed in an extra-ordinarily horrific situation. I think of the state of mind of the passengers who acted after "Let's Roll." And the sheer enormity of sadness is difficult to bear. Of the screaming inconsolable children on the flights that were deterred to the Towers. Of our President Bush, sitting in the classroom with children...and his stoic resolve to not jump up and panic them....or panic us.

September 11 is a galvanizing memory, isn't it? Remember today that we are not "global citizens" we are citizens of the Great United States of America. We cannot ever forget that. Our boundaries define us - we are a free people who bow to no man - no dictator - no government representative - because we are a nation structured to be a representative Republic.

Yup. San Tan Valley is a real for real entity. A quasi-entity but nonetheless an entity. We have a zipcode to call our own. We have a beautiful new High School. A Banner full-service hospital on the way.

We need some WELCOME TO SAN TAN VALLEY signs that preferably pick up where the YOU ARE LEAVING QUEEN CREEK signs let off. Wouldn't that be great?

Just seems like any group of 75,000 strong deserves and needs incorporation. How can we justify being some giant Incorporated farm? Paying taxes to Florence.....not being self-sufficient. Being an unwanted supplicant for services - it just doesn't make sense.

What do you think the major oppositions of this kind of thinking are? Are you worried about taxes going up? Are you worried that we will lose our local "flavor?" Are you worried that our beautiful vistas will be crowded out by Big Box stores or other ugly blights of supposed economic development?

If we can get a front runner who has our real community interests at heart, and of course that means an INVOLVED ELECTORATE - they will keep our best interests at heart. We have all learned that throwing money at a problem is not the way to solve a problem. So before taxes are levied, they had jolly well better be justified.

As far as losing our "charm" is it really charming to have a clogged Hunt Highway adding hours to our commute? Again, striking the BALANCE. I don't know anyone who wants glut....who wants abandoned mini-malls with tumbleweeds blowing across them.....who would want horizon lines messed up, no more dark skies. Everything that we love about Arizona has to do with being open, untamed, natural, and pristine. It's a bitter pill to think that STV could turn into (horrors!) some vulgar version of Gilbert. I don't want that. Who in their right mind would want that????

Is there a middle ground? Is there a way to meet our needs as a community without ruining the community?

I would think that the powers that be should be thinking along these lines. As should you and I. Tell me about it.

To Be....or Not To Be....A City

San Tan Valley is finally a geographical coordinate to the Post Office, brand spanking new with its own zipcode 85143. Will it end there? Is City-hood in our future, or will we remain the gas station stop on the Queen Creek-Florence axis? Estimates put our numbers at approximately 80,000. But if we are just a long list of bedrooms, will we ever have a voice? The dilemma of the Mensawarrior is how do you help a community organize itself without becoming the dreaded beast of a community organizer. And City-hood is no panacea. Incorporation would come at a cost, but at what cost do we remain stunted? Pros and cons. Striking the balance is the next step most assuredly, but finding the fulcrum point will be up to the community. Or at least I hope it will be up to the community and not a few (very) vocal GSTACers. Are we business-friendly? We have a large school, a soon-to-open large hospital....and plenty of places for tax-contributing businesses to hunker down. Thing is.....just about everyone the MW talks to is preoccupied with keeping a job and a roof over their family's head (a worthwhile preoccupation). We are taking baby-steps as a community and we are to be lauded for that. It's just the trajectory and the speed of that trajectory that needs more of our 80,000 minds to address. Any thoughts?

And the selective treatment of people based on skin color is what essentially defines racism. SHAME ON YOU Professor of Profanity Gates. Calling the officer's mother profane names? Did you learn those words in your graduate studies? You're a blowhard and your pal Obama should have taken the Presidential road and stayed out of a situation he knew little about. From all accounts, a maniacal Gates began screaming at the top of his lungs. Hurling profane epithets at the officer. Do you think maybe he did this as fodder for his next racist diatribe? For shame. Old Hank should have shut his pie-hole and given a thank you to the officer for trying to protect his property.

This Goofball Gates holds the same racist views as Jeremiah Wright. And DaPrez calls them friends? What DaPrez did from his podium was incite and foment an already tension-filled atmosphere in Cambridge. Obama - by rushing to judgment - by legitimizing Gates's racist disorderly conduct - has given white police officers across the country a real dilemma. In the enchanted place called the Valley of the Sun existed a magical land called Pinal. Within this magical land were several kingdoms. Among them was the newly envisioned San Tan Valley. Some tried to identify it with a numerical coordinate. This coordinate was 85143. However, no "drop-down" menus honored this numerical coordinate....nor did any "google search" reveal the acceptance of San Tan Valley by the kingdom's mail service, nor any agency of the Obama monarchy. And yet, it is by far the most POPULOUS kingdom in all the land of Pinal.

While the pundits say her national career is over, my wishful thinking is that it is not, just the venue will change. She has removed the target from her back - for now. She has what they used to call "spunk," and I am not saying this as I am riding my horseless carriage. Call it what you will, I like the woman. Maybe after the sting of the Vanity Fair piece abates, maybe after the threats to her family wane, maybe after an Intellectual Colossus like Charlie Gibson chooses another Conservative to trash....maybe....maybe she will return.

So back to SAN TAN VALLEY, we're chugging along. And we need some SIGNS! Right next to the "you are leaving Queen Creek" signs. WELCOME to San Tan Valley. Let's welcome BUSINESSES to San Tan Valley, yes? Some large solvent business to become the across-the-street neighbor of the Hunt Highway Walmart. Yeah, babies. To Ignite or Not To Ignite

The day before the 4th of July. Good people lost their lives to secure our freedom in the years surrounding 1776. The Experiment in Democracy is sputtering along not vigorously thriving...when you think of the glory of the Roman Empire, we have lasted barely one-quarter of that time, and stress fractures are already showing in our Land of Liberty. There is too much power concentrated in Washington D.C. - we know that. And there is far too much power concentrated within one political party. This lop-sidedness ensures that approximately one-half of Americans' views are silent. I am one of those underrepresented/non represented and perhaps you are too. The incumbent party extols us to all get along, but how can we gleefully march into socialism with our heads held high? Socialism and the Nanny State are anathema to me - and maybe to you, too. Our government has gotten too big - too intrusive and the numbers of gimme-what-you-got non-achievers is threatening to squelch our American Pride and our American Ingenuity. The whiners have dispensed with personal responsibility - Why bother with Ingenuity when Big Brother D.C. will provide for all. I take a stand here - in this tiny splice of the Internet - for liberty and personal freedom. I reject Socialism and sweeping Government regulation. Re-read Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 and Rand's Anthem and get motivated to hunker down.

San Tan Valley 85143 is born TODAY. The Queen Creek Post Office will have to do a little more filtering for our formerly homeless selves here in the Hunt Highway Corridor......orphans no more! As the whole idea of a San Tan Valley community begins to grow, exciting times are upon us. So, the baby has been named, and as all babies must, STV will grow up. Let's all just take a deep breath and enjoy ordering new mail labels and checks...but when that excitement abates, the next order of business is exploring the type of community we all wish it to be. Please people of 85143, don't leave it to a select few. Why bother? Because when power is concentrated in a select few, it can be misused and misdirected. Let's keep the dialogue open, let's all keep our mouths moving, let's not recede into the background hum of our daily diatribes. So, Happy Birthday San Tan Valley. Today is all about US! This deserves a San Tan Flat burger and brew!

Mohammad: "Americans, European Union, international community, this government is not definitely - is definitely not elected by the majority of Iranians. So it's illegal. Do not recognize it. Stop trading with them. Impose much more sanctions against them. My message...to the international community, especially I'm addressing President Obama directly - how can a government that doesn't recognize its people's rights and represses them brutally and mercilessly have nuclear activities? The Seduction of Monday

Monday. Fresh to-do lists. Fresh commitments. So Fresh. Isn't it great that the concept of Monday exists? Wipe the slate clean. No matter that by Wednesday, the week has morphed into a simulacrum of the previous week. Still, I just love the premise of Monday.

The weekend was better than a human being deserves. Hubby and I took two of our grown "children" on the Party Barge (yes, it is really called that - and it is a Floating Living Room of fun) to Canyon Lake, where I proceeded to embarrass the female child by "yelling" while trying to dock said Floating Living Room at the marina.

Why do parents do that? At my age, what a parent does or does not do starts to matter less and less...but it is sort of heart-warming that one's actions still possess the power to elicit embarrassment. Because it is proof that there is still a tie between the mother and the "child". So I will cherish the angst I bring about in my adult-kids, because when it is gone the total independence that comes after will feel a tad lonely.

It is a sunny day here in San Tan Valley. Heading toward a high of 108 today. But, of course, it is a dry heat so the singeing of one's eyebrows is ok. Terrible joke read on a random blog this morning:

Michael Jackson regained consciousness briefly in the ambulance....his last words were, "Take me to the Children's hospital." Yeah, evil. But because a wacked-out pedophile is rich, is that a Get Out of Jail Free Card in this fame-worshipping society?

The Evolution of a City

So, it has begun. San Tan Valley emerges on July 1. For years, there had been rumors, then discussion, followed by two-steps-forward-one-step-back thinking. Add in lots of nay-saying and you get.....wait for it....San Tan Valley. While my preference was Bella Vista, STV sure beats the pants off of, say, Johnson or Cholla Anything. What will our vast 80,000 taxpayers do next? I would like us to GO FOR IT all the way - get our own town, not only to raise the one-finger salute to QC (thanks for offering $50 library cards) and a thanks-but-no-thanks to Florence. In fact, I'd like to see an STV City Hall that isn't a double-wide. Here's the thing, people of STV, don't let a small group of real estate developers infiltrate this growing thing.

Or should I say, this living thing. Here is my fear - that certain vocal, shall we say, monopolizers begin the oh so familiar power-grab. Whatever happens, dear STV'ers, you must must must keep the Arizona flavor of our little slice of heaven. So, between not getting foreclosed upon, not getting overwhelmed at work, not being manipulated by your kids, you now have to worry about the Genesis of San Tan Valley. Let's talk.....
